The FMN-HYDRO Emulsion Mist Separator for Heavy Aerosol Loads is a mechanical filter module for industrial air filtration systems in which oil mist, emulsion mist, smoke, aerosols and general airborne contaminants must be reliably removed from the process air.
The filter modules in the FMN and HYDRO series are designed for the construction of multi-stage filtration systems and in-duct air filters. Air movement is not generated by an integrated fan, but by external fans, central extraction systems or existing ventilation systems. Airflow rates of up to 100.000 m³/h can be achieved.
This clearly distinguishes the FMN-HYDRO system from compact stand-alone units and conventional machine-mounted filters. Rather than focusing on a single emulsion mist separator, the system provides a flexibly expandable modular platform for industrial extraction and filtration solutions. Operators can configure the mechanical filter modules precisely according to airflow rate, type of emissions, particle size, aerosol load, duct routing and available fan capacity.
The HYDRO filter configuration is primarily used as a self-draining pre-filter stage. It is particularly suitable for the preliminary separation of liquid aerosols. In applications with low aerosol loads and larger particle diameters, it can also be used as a stand-alone module with a high separation efficiency.
The FMN filter module complements the system as a high-performance main or final filter unit and achieves separation efficiencies of ≥ 99.95%.
The combination of pre-separators, coordinated filter stages and the V-shaped arrangement of the HEPA filters results in long filter service lives and extremely high filtration efficiency.
Applications of the FMN-HYDRO Emulsion Mist Separator
The FMN-HYDRO emulsion mist separator is used wherever contaminated process air is conveyed through ducts, pipework or central collection systems to a mechanical filtration system. The filter modules are particularly suitable for industrial applications involving emulsion mist, cooling lubricant mist, smoke, aerosols and fine airborne contaminants.
Many production environments generate several types of emissions simultaneously. Metalworking processes, for example, may produce cooling lubricant mist, oil mist, fine particles and thermally generated smoke at the same time.
Standard stand-alone filters are often insufficient in such situations because airflow rates, contaminant types and operating conditions vary considerably. The FMN-HYDRO system provides a modular solution for precisely these applications: the filter stages are not selected according to a standard configuration, but combined according to the individual process.
The HYDRO stage primarily provides washable pre-filtration. Liquid aerosols, larger particles and moist components are reduced before the air reaches the main filter.
The FMN module then provides highly effective fine and final filtration. Together, the modules form a robust filtration chain for large mechanical air filtration systems, central extraction systems and in-duct applications.

Features of the FMN-HYDRO Emulsion Mist Filter
The FMN-HYDRO series was developed for operators who require a mechanical filtration system that can be designed for a specific project rather than a rigid, standardised unit.
The modules can be operated individually or combined into multi-stage systems. Air is conveyed by external fans or existing ventilation equipment, allowing the filtration system to be integrated particularly flexibly into central plant concepts.
The FMN filter module is designed for maximum separation performance. When combined with suitable pre-separators and the V-shaped arrangement of the HEPA filters, exceptionally long filter service lives can be achieved.
This design increases the effective filter surface area within a compact module and supports stable filtration performance even at high airflow rates.
The modular construction allows filter units to be adapted precisely to the required size and performance. Whether the application involves a small duct section, a medium-sized production extraction system or a large central filtration system, the FMN, HYDRO and supplementary filter series can be used to design a customised mechanical air filtration system.
The HYDRO version is designed as a robust, washable pre-filter stage. It can be cleaned repeatedly and is therefore suitable for processes in which regenerative pre-separation provides an economical solution.
For low aerosol loads and larger particle diameters, the HYDRO module can also be operated independently. In multi-stage systems, it protects downstream filters against unnecessarily high contaminant loads and helps extend maintenance intervals.

Benefits for the Operator
For operators, the FMN-HYDRO system primarily provides planning reliability. Instead of selecting a filtration unit based on a standard size, the filtration system can be adapted to the actual process using mechanical modules.
This is particularly important when production areas are expanded, several machines must be connected or existing ventilation systems are to remain in use.
The combination of a HYDRO pre-filter and an FMN main filter also provides economic benefits. The washable HYDRO stage reduces the load on downstream filters and can be reused after cleaning.
The FMN module subsequently provides highly efficient separation of the finest components. This reduces the risk of filters becoming saturated too quickly while reliably improving air quality.
The FMN-HYDRO emulsion mist separators for high aerosol loads are suitable for the customised design of extraction and filtration systems for air contaminated with cooling lubricants.
The modular design also offers benefits in terms of energy efficiency. Because air is moved by external fans or existing ventilation systems, the filter unit can be integrated into an overall plant concept.
Combined with heat recovery or a summer/winter operating mode, energy losses can be reduced and the operating mode can be adapted to seasonal conditions.

FMN-HYDRO for Modular Filtration Systems and In-Duct Air Filters
The particular strength of the FMN-HYDRO system lies in its modular design. Individual filter modules can be combined to create a filtration chain tailored to the process.
The HYDRO stage provides washable pre-separation, while the FMN module is used to achieve particularly high separation efficiencies. Depending on the application, additional pre-separators, filter stages or system options can be added.
For higher airflow rates, several modules can be arranged in series or in parallel. This allows even extensive production areas to be served by a mechanical air filtration system.
The system remains adaptable: if airflow rates, emission types or cooling lubricants change, the filter configuration can be modified or the system expanded.
This flexibility is particularly important for in-duct air filters. The filtration unit must be compatible with the existing duct routing, pressure loss, fan performance and available space.
FMN-HYDRO modules can therefore be dimensioned for the specific project and combined to form a high-performance complete system.
